Earls Court Masterplan

Client

Earls Court Development Corporation (ECDC) - Contractor with Hoare Lea

Value

£10 Billion

Project Description

The Earls Court masterplan is a £10 billion regeneration of the former exhibition centre site in West London, looking to deliver 4,000 new homes and 2.5million sq ft of workspace, proving around 12,000 new jobs. Sustainability underpins the masterplan with an all-electric 5th generation ambient energy network and a zero operational carbon target as the basis of the development.

Neual was brought in by Hoare Lea to work as a sub-contractor to provide masterplan expertise and to lead the masterplan sustainability strategy. Jon worked for over 2 years providing; the full spectrum of design and strategy support, development of the ECDC Sustainable Development Charter, Masterplan carbon budgets (operational and embodied carbon), coordination and authoring of masterplan sustainability planning documentation. Including Energy, Sustainability, Circular Economy and Overheating strategy documents.

Due to the scale and complexity of the regeneration, in Jon’s role as the sustainability lead for masterplan (outline elements) he had to work hand-in-hand with Hoare Lea MEP, wider multi discipline design team and detailed plot teams. Through this approach he was able to help to support the application of what will be the UK’s largest 5th generation energy network, an ambient loop from ground and air source heat pumps. Providing zero emissions site wide heating, cooling and hot water, supporting ECDC’s net zero ambitions.
